THE TRIO, GEARING UP FOR FRIDAY

I’ve narrowed down my set list for Friday’s reading at the Lawrence Street Art Gallery. It hasn’t been easy. The biggest factor in my selection: What stories, flash fiction, or flash memoir best reflect who I am as a writer?

Also, keeping in mind that folks want to be entertained, what feelings will these pieces elicit? I certainly don’t want to offend the audience or send anyone into a deep state of depression (even though some of my writing is indeed offensive and/or doomy and gloomy). Also, I need to think about the order of each piece. I’ll probably end my set with something semi-humorous, perhaps “The Mathematical Genius”—short, but sweet.

I look forward to seeing everyone, and I’m glad that I get to go first, that way: I can sit back and enjoy the performances of Mark Durfee  and Michelle Brooks. For more info click on the picture or go to: POETIC TRAVELERS.

Sorry I can't be there in person. I eagerly await your recap/report on the proceedings!

Good luck on your upcoming engagement. You bring credit to not only yourself, but your organization as well. Any administrator would be lucky to have a talented writer such as you to to bolster and improve the writing skills of students and staff alike. Your administrator must be so proud of you and no doubt has heaped praise and admiration upon you. Well either way, I'm proud of you. I know most of your peers are too.

I would not worry about offending anyone. Go for it -- whatever "it" is~

Thanks everyone.

WW, I miss having you across the hallway. Although I succeeded in not getting your 5-Block students, it has been determined that the Level IV teenage-convicts will be enrolled in my classes in order to meet the Federal hourly guidelines. I'm sure you can imagine what it's like to have 8-12 of these volatile youngsters from 0730-1050 hrs, Mon.-Fri. I guess it's easier to dump them in my area then it is to change someone's 4-day work schedule back to 5. But what do I know? I'm a convict teacher first and a writer second.

Good luck with the idiots. I'm not surprised to hear that the status quo is still in effect. Maybe you should spend a little more time with your feet on the midgets' desk. It isn't what you know, it's whose (really) large buttocks you kiss. As long as you would rather make your way based upon merit you will have to get the worst of the deal. I would say it is worth it, getting the worst deal to maintain your integrity. Stay strong.

My first thought...I wish I had known you and Mark when I lived close enough to go hear you read. My second thought...I wish I could go!

But one of these days, I'll be heading that way when you give a reading. I look forward to the day.

Don't worry about offending. Anybody who would be offended doesn't know squat about good writing. Your work is powerful, real and moves the reader. That's the way it should be.

Take lots of pictures to show us. I know it will be a great time.

Why do I think of this?

We have, in Canada, this really gone Maritime fiddle player who never fails to surpsise late night talk show hosts like Conan O'Brien.

Says Conan,

"There was Asheley, in his kilt, cutting a step while fiddling, and omigod, there was little Ashley hanging out."

Heh. Don't let it all hang out during the reading.

Hey Ivan, I'm sure that's not going to happen; I'm bringing my wife. Should be fun. Not until next week when I do the Turkey Trot will I let it all hang out ... except for the giblets, gotta keep them warm ... and / or ... well, you've got the idea.

Hey JR! I just posted a review of last night's readings, and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind if I copped the image of your chapbook with a link on my site so people could buy it.

Hey Rick, I read the review. Thanks for all the support. I emailed you yesterday. By all means, link up, copy & paste. I'll let you know when the limited print-run of chapbooks (75) are sold-out. Thanks again!
